Sharm November 2010

The recent Sharm trip went really well and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, so much so that almost everyone that went away immediately booked themselves on the next trip, which we are now taking bookings for.

2011 Dive Calendar

We have finally made a start on next years dive calendar.

So far we have secured a booking aboard M/Y Blue Melody for 29th July 2011 to 5th August 2011.

The total cost of this trip is £1149.00 per person and includes 7 nights full board and 6 days diving all air fills and 12l cylinder hire. We will be doing the Dadelius and St Johns Safari and the limited number of spaces are going very quickly, so in order to book yours please contact us as soon as possible.

M/Y Blue Melody has been awarded the best liveaboard for 2010 by Diver and the vessel itself has two sun decks, two saloon areas, bar area, separate dining room and each cabin has its own entertainment system, en-suit bathroom and air conditioning.

The Safari this year is the Dadalus and St John's Safari and allows you to explore the beauty of the Southern Red Sea.

Daedalus
Daedalus is a large reef which rises form the sea bed in the middle of the Red Sea and is easily recognised by its zebra-striped lighthouse. The sheer walls offer some depth for the technical divers among us and are covered in over-grown hard coral formations and a variety of reef fish. Napoleon wrasses and turtles are often cruising by and it makes its home to several big pelagic species. There is also the wreck of SS Dacca on the North Side of the reef.

Elphinstone Reef
Elphinstone is a beautiful long reef with its walls, north and south covered in hard and soft corals. It is best dived in the early mornings when you are most likely to see hammerheads. The reef offers colourful scenery and a very good variety of reef fish. Along the southern plateau it the Arch and face of the Pharaoh. Schools of surgeon fish dwell in the arch and as you ascend to your safety stops its possible to observe the large silvertips along the plateau.

Fury Shoal
This large cluster of reef offers unforgettable dives. From the northern site of Small Abu Galawa to its most southern site of Sataya, Fury Shoal can prove to be surprising and diverse. Each dive site has its particularity from a resident pod of dolphins at Sataya to wrecks to stunning corals. Located between St John's and Fury Shoal is the wreck of a fishing trawler which starts at 35 m and finishes around 60m.

St John's Reef
Located on the tropic of Cancer this chain of reefs is the furthest South you will get. all its dive sites are close together and offers loads of variety from drop offs, tunnels, caves and stunning coral formations.St John's Caves otherwise known as Umm Kharalim is truly unique and is a photographers heaven. The marine life and colours of the coral in this area are the best you will find anywhere in the Red Sea. Depending on weather conditions there may also be the opportunity to dive the wrecks of the SS Turbo and SS Atlas.

If you would like to join us on this trip, please contact us as soon as possible and we will require a £290.00 cheque deposit in order to secure your booking, but hurry, the limited number of places are going fast.

Do you fancy diving some where slightly different, have a look below....

  • Austria
Diver exploring a pristine Alpine Park that turns into an inland lake for half of the year.

On the bed of this lake underwater explorers will discover fish swimming though the branches of trees, a floor covered in grass, benches, bridges and a landscape that usually belongs overground.

As temperatures begin to rise in spring, the ice and snow on the surrounding mountaintops begin to melt and runs down into the basin of land below. This park usually used for hiking soon fills up with ice-cold crystal clear water and is great for diving when the waters are at their highest in June.

  • Mexico
Mexico set to open the world's largest underwater museum in Cancun

This project is called The Museo Subacuatico de Arte (MUSA) and is aiming to ease pressure on nearby natural reefs which are struggling to deal with the half a million water-going tourists who flock to the area every year.

The 'life casts' figures are made from PH neutral concrete which will encourage coral to grow.

It is hoped the new sculptures will produce a coral reef system and attract a variety of aquatic creatures to the Cancun and Isla Mujeres National Marine Park.

Due to the coral growth the appearance of the figures will constantly change with time.

BRITISH DIVERS WHO HIT A RECORD ROCK BOTTOM

- as featured in Metro Wednesday 15th September 2010-

Rene Houben is pulled through the midnight murk of sump two, 3 miles
underwater tunnel on a 'scooter' propulsion unit to conserve energy

A group divers have recently successfully surfaced after diving 5.5 miles into a previously unexplored cave system. This record breaking dive took them 50 hours and included two nights camped deep in an underground cavern.

The team went as far as their safety line would allow and they used scooters to pull them through the underwater passages of the Pozo Azul Caves in Covenera (Northern Spain). After two underwater passages or 'sumps' they emerged into a small dry cavern where they camped for two nights.

Mr Houben prepares his scooter for another ride into the deep

Jason Mallinson (Front) and the group prepare their gear

Support diver Rob Dalby form Huddersfield carries equipment down through the cave opening

Rick Stanton, Rene Houben, John Volanthen and Jason Mallinson emerge into the sunlight as record holders
